About The Polished Tile

OUR STORY

What Is The Polished Tile?

The Polished Tile began with a simple idea.
People are craving connection. They just do not always know where to find it.

Social spaces have become loud, rushed, and often centered around things that have no meaning.  We wanted something different. Slower. More intentional. More meaningful.

Mahjong became the medium.
Not the destination, but the reason people gather.

Around a table, something shifts. Conversations flow. People settle in.
There is enough structure to keep things moving and enough space for connections to take over.

That is what The Polished Tile is built on.

Set within The Parlor @ 511, the space carries a sense of history that you can feel the moment you walk in. Located in Monte Vista, one of the city’s most established and character rich neighborhoods, the setting adds depth to the experience.

There is a quiet presence here. Original details, thoughtful design, and a sense the space has held many conversations before this one. It felt important to honor that, not overwrite it.

The parlor is not just where we gather. It is part of the experience itself.

Meet the Founder

Welcome to The Polished Tile

I spent much of my career building systems, leading teams, and bringing structure to fast moving environments.

Outside of that, I have always been the one creating the gathering. Hosting. Planning. Noticing the details that make people feel comfortable the moment they walk in.

I love to travel, play tennis when I can, and I am rarely without an audiobook. Home is full. Four dogs, a cat, and an African sulcata tortoise. It is lively, a little chaotic, and always full of life.

The Polished Tile reflects everything I have learned.
How to bring people together.
How to create structure without pressure.
How to make something feel elevated and easy at the same time.

WHY VISIT US

The Story of Mahjong

Mahjong began in China, where it has been passed down through generations, shared across tables, homes, and time.

It is more than a game. It is a tradition.
One that carries memory, rhythm, and connection from one generation to the next.

Over time, Mahjong traveled. It found its way into new communities, shaped by the people who embraced it while still holding onto its roots. In the United States, it evolved again, creating new ways to play while preserving the spirit of gathering.

What has remained constant is the table.
The rhythm of play.
The way conversation and connection unfold alongside the game.

At The Polished Tile, we honor where Mahjong comes from and the many ways it has been shared and reimagined across cultures.

It is not just a game we host.
It is a tradition we respect and a story we are grateful to continue.
